Get Fit By Beginning Yoga
Yoga is a very healthy form of exercise. But when you are beginning yoga there are a couple of things you need to consider. Firstly, know yourself. The human body has limitations and you should know your own. Don't push yourself too hard, it will lead to injuries. Also, you need to understand that yoga is not only a form of exercise but is also a spiritual experience and approaching it as such will make the experience so much more enjoyable. In this article I hope to expand your understanding of these points as many people, when beginning yoga, fail to realize them and thus do not get all the benefits from it that they should which is a shame since it can provide so many benefits to a healthy body and mind. Understanding these 2 points will give you a good basis to start.
Understand Your Body and its Limitations
This is most certainly the most important detail to realize when beginning yoga or any other form of exercise. The motions and positions are new to you and your body has no muscle memory of the movements required. Take it slow. No matter how many times per week you practice or take classes realize that it is a process, let your body work itself into it. You will bending and stretching yourself into positions that are new to your body, if you take it too fast you WILL injure yourself. If you end up tearing a muscle or receiving a sprain you won't be beginning yoga, you will be sitting on the sidelines waiting to heal.
The Spiritual Side of Yoga
When beginning yoga even if you don't care about nor understand the religious side you should make a concerted effort to embrace the spiritual side. Yoga is an ancient practice in which you bring balance to your body, mind and internal energy. Allow yourself to embrace these aims, you will learn how to focus your mind and increase concentration, bring a calm, serene, total relaxation to your mind and body, as well as be able to deal with and defeat stress. So you will not only be building your health through exercising your muscles, but you will be learning to calm your mind to remove the health destroying stress from your life.
So you can see, beginning yoga will require you to be a little patient and open your mind to a new experience. Pace yourself, don't rush and injure yourself it will only delay your enjoyment of the benefits. And open your mind to the spiritual side of yoga, it will bring peace and balance to your life. Understand these two points and you have a good start to a new healthy you.
