Coping With Panic Attack

One of the best methods of coping with panic attacks is to breath into a born paper bag. Very often in a panic attack you are actually over-breathing and have too rich an oxygen mixture in your lungs. You will increase the carbon dioxide level and cause your breathing to return to normal by breathing into a paper bag. As a result the high oxygen content will make you feel dizzy and may induce panic. By lowering the level will bring you back in touch with reality.

You will not be able to overcome a panic attack by doing anything to stop it. The most popular method of coping with a panic is to accept it and remind yourself that they are short lived and will soon pass. Most panic attacks have a duration of minutes. Instead of trying to stop the attack, get out of yourself. Engage in a similarly enjoyable activity or listen to music . Relaxation techniques are very effective for some. Recognize the panic attack and then close your eyes while you allow yourself to breath deeply in and out in long slow breaths.

Most of the times coping with panic attacks can best be accomplished by adopting a different lifestyle. Exercising regularly and burn off the excess energy. Stop smoking as it is not good for your body or soul and is a stress inducer. Avoid the fast foods and eat regularly. A healthy diet can do as much for coping with stress as anything else. Learn to talk about what is going on in your life. Share your stressful issues with others and take responsibility for your feelings.

If all the above fail look for a self help group or panic disorder counselor. If you really want getting help coping with panic attacks ask your doctor, rabbi, priest or minister for a referral. Look on the Internet or in the directory.
