Finding The Cause Of Panic Attacks
What can be the cause of Panic Attacks?
Well panic attacks seem to happen out of nowhere. So that is why we ask what is the cause of panic attacks? One moment you're fine, the next you're shaking and crying. Yet many patients fail to realize that the panic attack does not just happen out of nowhere. Thus, many patients fail to know that panic attacks are result of just nowhere. Initially the attack is caused by a certain stimulus. It could be a particular person, a place, or even a smell. Anyways for lowering down the panic attacks; it is must to prevent their causes.
It is known that panic attacks are caused because of internal or external causes. Internal triggers include memories, feelings, certain thoughts, and physical sensations, such as headaches. Whereas external causes of panic attacks are a cause of sudden changes in lighting, temperature, or sound level, strange smells or sounds, and certain places.
So just why should a certain smell or taste cause a panic attack? Try Think of a person having peanut allergy. Also, a normal person's body or immune system does not react to the peanuts in anyways. However to a person having an allergy with peanut reacts to peanut in a deadly way. Likewise, a person suffering from peanut allergy may have inherited a sensitive nervous system that forces him to react with peanuts.
What makes this happen? Let us say for an instance your trigger is a texture of linen. You are travelling and have to spend a night at a motel. You get into the bed having linen sheets. For some strange reason, you begin to sweat. Then, you are just in no mood to have a panic attack. And, your anxiety builds up when the attack turns full-fledged.
HOW TO GET AWAY FROM TRIGGERS AND THINGS THAT CAUSE PANIC ATTACKS :
Ideally, you need to avoid triggers. Just by avoiding triggers, you can prevent the panic attacks. With the linen example, you can substitute other fabrics for linen. Also if you are sensitive to changes in lighting, you can avoid dance clubs. Little changes to your lifestyle can go a long way to protect your sanity.
CONFRONTING THE TRIGGERS:
There are times when you wish to avoid panic attacks or its other causes, but they are just unavoidable. As if it's difficult to avoid the smell of a cigarette as we can't control on whether a passerby smokes or stops. Thus, some patients try to accustom themselves to the trigger, by repeated exposing themselves to the unpleasant stimulus.
I know that you would be anxious to try so, and why not? Nobody wants to have a panic attack on purpose. Anyways getting used to your triggers can help you to prevent panic attacks in long run. For an example people suffering from phobia try to expose themselves frequently with the kind of fear they possess. Initially they are face to some kind of threat but slowly they lose their fears.
In advance of your confronting the cause of panic attacks, you should discuss this with your psychiatrist or doctor. They have some long or short run triggers and exercise that helps you to fight with your triggers. If you are a heart patient, then it is not worth for you.
For the most peole, it is generally best to increase the exposure slowly. Don't worry if in the initial stages you fail to fight the cause of panic attacks. . It is fine as everything needs time to heal.
